Located in the Manchester district of Richmond, Art Works is a full-service art center. You can see and purchase contemporary art from local and international artists. We have 82 artist studios and 5 galleries so there’s a huge variety of work. Our artists rent studios where they make and sell art. Browse our shopping site to see some of the artwork available and purchase online.

Are you looking for a place for your group to hold a poetry reading, improv session, yoga class, seminar, or workshop?  Contact us for a tour of the facilities. Add a fun art project to your business meeting or get together with one of our group art activities.

And please come to the monthly art shows and receptions, held on the 4th Friday of each month. It’s free and open to the public.

Admission to Art Works is free and open to the public Tuesdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Parking

Park on the street or use the public garage located on East 5th Street, only 1 block from the art center. Cost is only $3 per hour. For 4th Friday Opening Receptions, special parking arrangements are made. Check our calendar for details about the exhibits.

Meet the Staff

Glenda Kotchish
Glenda KotchishOwner
Glenda is the owner of Art Works, a sculptor, painter, storyteller and illustrator. She is our fearless leader and the heartbeat of the Gallery. Her background is in IT and banking. In 2003 she saw the potential for Manchester to become a vibrant community and purchased the building for Art Works. She set about making the art center inclusive to all artists and the community.
Jessie Boyland
Jessie BoylandGallery Director
Jessie holds a degree in Painting and Printmaking from VCU School of the Arts. She has worked in the art gallery business for the last 20 years. She is the current Gallery Director of Art Works where she works with artists to plan and executes 5 exhibits each month. She has juried numerous art competitions for organizations throughout Virginia and worked with national and international artists. Outside of work, Jessie enjoys being a mom to her two girls and figure drawing in her spare time.
Chris Schoen
Chris SchoenCommunity Engagement - Social Media Manager
Chris Schoen joined Art Works in 2022, first as a resident artists and then as an employee to engage the community and manage Art Works’ social media. We couldn’t have brought on a more engaging person to our team.
Jasper Drilling
Jasper Drilling Gallery Administrator
Jasper Drilling is a graduate of VCU and will greet you when you arrive at the art center.

They bring their expertise to the many administrative tasks necessary in preparing monthly exhibits as well as providing information to visitors and resident artists.
