RVA Thriving Artists is a non-profit that sponsors programs to educate and inform artists, sponsors open figure drawing sessions, summer camps, and exhibit opportunities for Virginia visual artists.

Summer Art Camps

Print Making

Your 6-12 year old student will enjoy discovering print making at Summer Art Camp!

There are endless possibilities in the world of printmaking! Printmaking supports fine motor skills and allows children to explore their creativity! Your child will learn basic printmaking skills starting with using natural materials to make color-rubbing collages.Then throughout the week they will move on to monoprinting and basic relief print skills using handmade collagraphs.

  • Small class – 10 students
  • 4 day camp Monday through Thursday
  • June 17 – June 20
  • 8:00 am – 12 noon

Just Desserts, Sculpture Treats

Your 6-12 year old student will enjoy discovering sculpture at Summer Art Camp!

No this isn’t a baking class! We are exploring the possibilities of sculpture through one of the best treats of the day, DESSERT! Students will learn the basics of design and sculpture by making some yummy treats that you will almost want to eat except they last forever!

  • Small class – 10 students
  • 4 day camp Monday through Thursday
  • June 24 – June 27
  • 8:00 am – 12 noon

  • Teacher and assistant experienced working with children and art instruction and are vetted

Wet Felting

Your 6-12 year old student will enjoy learning how to take wool and create functional and fun art in this Summer Art Camp!

The student will learn the basics of wet-felting–the materials and processes needed to make cool felted shapes. Your child will incorporate drawing or writing as brainstorms and icebreakers to help them start conversations around color palettes, shapes, and other design choices. Students will be making coasters, wall decor, clothing patches, bags, pouches and collage.

Wonderful World of Art

Your 6-12 year old student will be introduced to many art styles and choices for creating art at Summer Art Camp!

Sometimes the possibilities for creative expression can be OVERWHELMING. In this camp we are going to provide a little taste of everything, from tie dye to weaving, to painting with color bubbles! Many of these techniques are sure to capture the interest of your student and give them a great start down the path of creativity! This class is all about the experience!

  • July 22 – July 25
  • Small class – 10 students
  • 4 day camp Monday through Thursday

The Exchange Meetings:

Join us for The Exchange meetings. In these programs, you will learn about the business side of being an artists (creating a website, marketing your art, copyright laws, and techniques around making art (welding, painting, illustrating, clay work and more).

Figure Drawing Sessions:

We sponsor open Figure Drawing Sessions on the first and third Sundays of each month.  Join us. The fee is $10 and used to pay the model. ime is from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Check the schedule and register: click here.

Queer Life Drawing:

Also Gold Lion life drawing sessions are new to the program.  (1012 Hull Street). February 28 join us  for Queer Life Drawing at Gold Lion in Manchester, RVA. Bring your art supplies and sketch our models Jo’rie Tigerily and Qing Blaze who will be decked out in style. Your donation pays the models and goes towards fundraising for the Color Theory: The Richmond Queer Art Experience , an exhibit at Art Works in August and September celebrating Pride Month in Richmond.
